Methodology guide -- CN 7305 (welded steel tube, large diameter)
Large-diameter welded line pipe is used in oil & gas pipelines and structural applications. Welded production is less emissions-intensive than seamless (CN 7304) but still carries the upstream steel emissions.
Step 1 -- understand the upstream chain. Welded pipe takes hot-rolled coil or plate, forms it into tube, and welds the seam. The upstream coil/plate emissions dominate; the welding adds <0.1 t/t.
Step 2 -- request verified data for the full chain. Pipe makers should pass through the coil/plate supplier emissions. A pipe-mill-only emissions report is insufficient.
